What is Sponta?

In a nutshell, we are the adventure community. What that means is that we provide the space for like-minded people to find each other. Through fun and exciting adventures our members share unforgettable moments together which often leads to long term friendship.

Not only do we connect our members, we are a part of the community. We attend our Sponta leader’s activities and even host our own for our members to come to. We have met so many people through the fun things we get up to ourselves and want others to have the opportunity to do the same. We value strong connection through friendship and in our experience those close friends become more like family.

How do I book into a Sponta?

Whether you like surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing or any other adventure sports…Sponta has them all.

Booking into Sponta is easy, search for the type of Sponta (activity) you would like to do, once you find the Sponta you like:

  • Open the Sponta so you can see the details.
  • Hit “RESERVE SPOT“.
  • Select the “OCCASION“.
  • Tick “Ts&Cs” and enter your payment details.
  • Hit “CONFIRM RESERVATION

And off you go! You will get an email from us shortly after with the details of the Sponta you booked in.

On the D-Day, rock up at the location your host have specified with all the required gear and have some epic fun.

Do I need experience?

Each Sponta has an experience section. If you are new to the sport then keep an eye out for the Spontas that offer activities appropriate for Rookies.

Will I need the equipment?

Each Sponta will clearly state whether equipment is provided and also what you should bring. Most Spontas appropriate for Rookies will provide the necessary equipment.

Change or cancel a booking?

To change or cancel your booking please shoot an email to our booking team: booking@sponta.com.au.  Our team will respond to you within 24hrs. For refunds, please refer to our refund policy.

Refunds policy

If I cancel my booking to attend a sponta?
  • If you cancel your booking within 24 hours of booking it (unless the sponta is being held within 24 hours), or if you cancel more than 7 days’ before the sponta , you will receive a full refund.
  • If you cancel your booking within 7 days of the sponta, you will get back 85% of the amount you paid.
  • If you cancel your booking 24 hours or less before the sponta , you will not be entitled to a refund.
What happens if the host cancels the sponta?
  • The host is not entitled to any money and any booking fees will be refunded back to you.

Is it safe?

Yes, we contact hosts once they list their first Sponta.

We also have a great review system, where you will be able to click on any user’s profile and check them out, see their rating and reviews for past Spontas they have hosted, as well as any Sponta’s they are currently hosting.

How old do I need to attend or host a Sponta?

You must be 18 years or older to organise or participate in an event.

How will you use my personal info?

Your personal information such as your “Public username”, rating, “About you” and Spontas you currently hosting will be posted online.  We will use, handle and disclose your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy.

Hosting

How do I become a host?

Becoming a host is simple – you need to list a sponta you wish to host and there you go! Click on “Create new sponta” button at the top of the page to start the process or follow the steps are in the “Listing” FAQ.

Who can host on Sponta?

Almost anyone can be a host on Sponta! It is free to sign up and list your sponta activity and adventure. Spontas are as diverse as the hosts themselves. You can host anything from a surf gathering or a hangout, casual hike through the bush, rock climbing lunch hang out, spot in your car to the music festival, or even a spot on your next awesome trip you have planned.

What Can I host?

The first couple of Spontas are always difficult to figure out: Where do I go? What do I offer? Should I charge for it?
We have a great number of articles written by our own Adventure Guru with different examples and options of Spontas you can offer, how to create your offering and how to add value.
If you feel stuck, we are always here to lend a helping hand and be your bouncing board for the ideas – that’s why we are here! We have a dedicated team ready to help you with your Spontas, shoot them an email to spontas@sponta.com.au

Do I need qualifications or insurance to host?

When offering professional instructions then it is expected that you have the relevant skills, qualifications and insurance. However, hanging out with friends is not a work safety concern. Be sure to be clear on what you are offering and have your waiver forms up to date (or use Sponta’s waiver forms) and signed by your participants

Listings

How do I list?

It’s as simple as 1,2,3…and 4 :). Check out our tips on how to give you sponta a little buzz.
At the top of any page, you will see “CREATE NEW SPONTA” button. After clicking on the button you will be taken through 4 easy steps of creating an epic event: Name, Details, Location and Time, and most importantly Photos.

Make sure you use all possible word variations of the activity in your “Summary” and use free stock image websites (unsplush.com, stocksnap.io and pixabay.com) for pictures if you don’t have good quality ones yourself.

Tip: Most people search using keywords, make sure you use all possible word variations of the activity in your “Summary” so your participants can find you. EG: snowboarding can also be snow and boarding, as well as snowboard.

After you complete your Sponta listing, our admin team will need to approve it before anyone can book in. This may take up to 24 hours.  If your Sponta is within next 24 hours, email us to spontas@sponta.com.au to let us know.

My type of sponta isn’t on the list?

Some types of Sponta’s maybe listed under a different category. Choose as many applicable categories first, then look for the appropriate type.
If you still cannot locate the correct type, shoot us an email to spontas@sponta.com.au with the type and category you are looking at. Our team will add it in for you.
If you give us the name of the sponta you have created, we will also add the new type to it for you.

How do I change my sponta?

Changing your listed sponta is easy:
1. Go to “My Spontas”
2. Click on the drop-down button
3. Select “Edit”
You will be able to edit every field of sponta listing, including the date and location of each occasion unless someone is already booked in.
If someone has already booked into one of your occasions, you will not be able to change time, date or location of that particular occasion. You will have to contact support spontas@sponta.com.au for any changes to that particular occasion.

How do I cancel my sponta listing?

To cancel your listing:
1. Go to “My Spontas”
2. Click on the drop-down button
3. Select “Delete”
NOTE: this will delete ALL OCCASIONS of this sponta. If you only want to delete a particular occasion, click “Delete occasion” instead.
If someone is already booked in, you will need to contact our support team to cancel the booking manually bookings@sponta.com.au
Please let us know as soon as this happens so we can contact the participants and let them know.

How do I cancel an occasion on my listing?

To cancel an occasion, you need to:
1. Go to “My Spontas”
2. Click on the drop-down button
3. Select “Delete occasion”
If someone is already booked in, you will need to contact our support team to cancel the booking manually bookings@sponta.com.au
Please let us know as soon as you find out so we can contact the participants and let them know.

Payouts Policy

How much does it cost to host?

To help cover the costs of the products, services, and support we provide, we collect a 15% booking service fee on all paid sponta bookings. To help out our hosts we only charge a service fee on successful bookings. Meaning listing your spontas is completely free of charge.

For simplicity purposes, we have combined all the fees into one and only charge one service fee. The fee is automatically deducted from the payout to the host.

When do I get paid?

Sponta releases your payout 24 hours after sponta event commencement time.  The time it takes for the funds to arrive in your account depends on your payout method.

What are the payout options?

Currently, you are able to receive payouts directly to your bank account.

If this is your first payout from Sponta, you will need to verify your information in order for the payout to be processed. Our support team will be in contact with you with all the requirements via email listed in your profile.

Refunds policy

What if I cancel my sponta?

If you cancel your sponta, you will not be entitled to any money and any booking fees will be refunded back to the participants.

What if participant cancel their booking?

If the participant cancels their booking within 24 hours of booking it (unless the sponta is being held within 24 hours), or if the participant cancels more than 7 days’ before the sponta, they will receive a full refund.

If the participant cancels their booking within 7 days of the sponta, you, as the host, will receive 5% of the booking fee as a compensation.

If the participant cancels their booking 24 hours or less before the sponta, you, as a host, will be entitled to the full payment (same as if the participant attended the sponta).

Privacy and Legal things

How will you use my personal information?  Can people online see it?

Your personal information such as your first name, rating and any interests you list or browse will be posted online.  We will use, handle and disclose your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
